China’s police report more than 26,000 counterfeiting cases this year
At a glance
- Police in China opened more than 26,000 IP infringement and counterfeiting criminal cases in 2026, as reported on 28 September.
- The Ministry of Public Security is supervising 177 of them.
- Priorities include e-commerce, social media and livestream selling.
Public security organs across China have opened more than 26,000 criminal cases involving IP infringement and counterfeiting since the start of 2026, according to a CCTV report published by China News Service on 28 September. The Ministry of Public Security has placed 177 of these cases under its own supervision. [1]

The report says police are concentrating on food and drugs, daily necessities and electronic products, and on well-known trademarks, famous products and popular domestic (“guochao”) brands. The channels singled out are e-commerce platforms, social media and livestream selling. [1]
Three cases are mentioned: counterfeit branded car wheel hubs in Zhejiang, counterfeit branded clothing in Chongqing, and e-bike helmets in Sichuan. The report doesn’t give brand names, arrest numbers, values or outcomes for any of them. [1]
Two things stand out. Domestic brands are now named alongside well-known marks as a priority, which says something about who is using the criminal route. And the focus on livestream and social selling matches where many brand owners are seeing the problem. Ministry supervision generally marks a priority case, so it’s worth knowing that route exists when a case is large or crosses provinces.
