- Customs says they were to be transshipped overseas; no arrests have been reported and the investigation continues.
Hong Kong Customs said on 20 October that it had seized about 20,000 suspected counterfeit items, with an estimated market value of about HK$10 million, at the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal on 18 and 21 September. [1], [2]

Customs said it selected two 40-foot containers arriving from the Mainland for inspection on those days, based on intelligence analysis and risk assessment. Inside it found two batches of suspected counterfeit goods, including mobile phones, mobile phone parts, watches and footwear. An initial investigation found that the goods would have been transshipped to overseas regions. The release names no brands or destination countries, reports no arrests, and says the investigation is continuing. [1], [2]
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, importing or exporting goods bearing a forged trademark is an offence. The maximum penalty on conviction is a fine of HK$500,000 and five years’ imprisonment. [1]
This is a separate case from the relabelled hard drives Customs seized at industrial units in Tuen Mun on 15 October.
Customs describes this cargo as passing through Hong Kong rather than being sold there. The release does not say where it was going, and that is the detail that would matter most to brand owners dealing with the same products in destination markets.
