The operation was led by the PNP’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), working with the Food and Drug Administration and representatives of the trademark owner. Complaints under the Intellectual Property Code and the Food Safety Act of 2013 are being prepared for the prosecutor’s office in Malolos City. The report doesn’t name the brand. [1]

Fake food is a different risk from fake handbags, and bringing in the FDA and adding food safety complaints to the IP ones reflects that. For brand owners in food and FMCG, it’s a reminder that a health angle can bring in other agencies and other charges. Having your own people at the raid to identify the goods still matters.
